How to Maintain Scholarship and Research Activity as a Consultant or Freelancer in UK Higher Education
Independent work does not mean stepping away from scholarship. Built on more than twenty years in UK higher education at senior executive level, this course is designed for consultants and freelancers who want to maintain a scholarly identity, contribute to sector knowledge and bring research-informed perspectives to their practice. Whilst grounded in the UK context, the approaches translate well for those working internationally or across transnational partnerships.
What you will gain
- Redefining what scholarship means once you sit outside a university post, and why a research-informed identity remains a professional asset
- The practical mechanics: accessing resources, writing and collaboration, research ethics without an institutional framework, and realistic routes to dissemination and publication
- Integrating scholarship with your consultancy identity and building a sustainable plan that holds up against the demands of independent work
